IT Specialist
Piscataway, NJ
Information TechnologyRegular Full-Timeoverview
Since its founding in 1992, Edgewood Properties has established itself as a leading real estate development and property management company.
With corporate headquarters in New Jersey, the company is on a course of growth leading to activities across the nation.
Given our rapid portfolio growth, coupled with ownership's desire to develop and hold rather than sell, the timing is ideal for qualified candidates to come on-board.
We are seeking an IT Specialist to join Edgewood's newly established Information Technology team as one of its first dedicated support hires.
This is a full-time position based onsite at Edgewood's headquarters in Piscataway, NJ, five days per week.
This role also requires availability for on-call support outside standard business hours, as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Position Overview
Edgewood's IT function is being built from the ground up. This role goes beyond day-to-day Tier 1/2 support — it also includes hands-on participation in evaluating, implementing, and administering key IT systems as the department builds out Edgewood's technology stack. Because the department is newly formed, responsibilities also include new-hire equipment setup and deployment, process documentation, and support for new tool rollouts as the department's needs evolve.
Candidates should use AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) as a standard part of daily work — for scripting, documentation, issue triage, and automating repetitive tasks — rather than as an occasional tool.
This role requires genuine enthusiasm for AI and a willingness to learn and experiment with new tools and approaches. The goal is for IT to function as a key driver and facilitator for the business, not solely a support function.
responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Help Desk & End-User Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for Tier 1/2 IT support requests across the company (hardware, software, network, printing, mobile devices).
- Triage and resolve tickets, escalating to the Director of IT Services or the managed service provider as needed, and confirm resolution before closing.
- Set up, image, and deploy equipment for new hires; manage IT onboarding/offboarding checklists.
Systems Evaluation, Implementation & Administration
- Participate in evaluating new IT systems, tools, and vendors alongside the Director of IT Services.
- Support the implementation and rollout of new systems, including configuration, testing, and user training.
- Support day-to-day administration of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Egnyte under the Director of IT Services' direction (accounts, permissions, troubleshooting).
- Maintain an accurate device and asset inventory.
- Document IT processes, systems, and common resolutions to build out the department's knowledge base.
- Grow into broader systems administration and security work over time — networking, firewalls, LDAP/SSO and identity, and general administration across Edgewood's environment. Not required at hire; this is expected to be learned on the job.
On-Call & After-Hours Support
- Provide on-call support outside standard business hours as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to address urgent system or business-continuity issues.
- Coordinate with the Director of IT Services and the managed service provider on after-hours escalations.
AI-Driven Efficiency
- Use AI tools daily to improve efficiency — drafting documentation, summarizing issues, writing scripts, and automating repetitive tasks.
- Identify opportunities to apply AI to IT support and other business processes, and help implement and test those solutions.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support ad hoc projects and tasks as assigned; responsibilities will evolve as the department grows.
